We got back from my pre-birthday trip, we (Boy and i) went to the casinos in Louisiana with my mom and her cousin. I mentioned before that mom and I have the same b-day, it’s tomorrow, so we decided to hit up the casinos because they all offer freebies for birthdays. Mom paid for our hotel room, I had comp meals from past trips plus a $15 birthday meal credit, so our food was paid for. The Boy and I both had $200 each that we were willing to part with. We intentionally chose to stay at Coushatta because they have really nice pools and a lazy river. I figured we would still have something to do if things went badly.
Friday, it was a bad day, lol. I was down $160, so The Boy and I called it an early night, went to the little cafe on the casino floor, bought a creme puff and a slice of cheesecake and took it up to our room by 7 pm. My mom and cousin clearly thought we were pills, but we were sticking to our guns of not spending any more gambling $ than we planned.
Saturday morning, I was up early. When I go gambling, no matter where it is (I’ve been to Vegas, Biloxi and various ones in Louisiana), I like to wake up early at the hotel and go play a little around 8 am. It’s an interesting time to go from a people watching standpoint. You generally see people who are there out of desperation, not a fun night out. It’s a great reminder of what money can do to good people and to never let yourself go too far down into debt.
By 10, mom and cousin were back down playing again. My dad sent a text saying the hitch on his boat trailer had broken (thankfully, not too far from a friends house) and that maybe his bad luck would turn things around for us. Not 5 minutes later, my mom calls me to run to a machine, she had hit $1,000 on a $0.75 cent bet! Whoo-hoo for her! She had me cash it out for her, take half of it up to the room. Along the way, the boy decided to try his hand again, so we go back down.
I decide to try my favorite game ever, Goldfish. I’ve played a version of this little game for a solid 10 years. I like it because the Bonus games always give you a little bump, so you can hang out on a machine forever if you want to.
The Boy decides to watch me, I make my $0.50 bet and the bonus pops up! The Goldfish is considered the jackpot on this game and sure enough, he ‘jumped’ to the top. That activates numerous additional spins. The Boy is looking at my ‘Win’ column and goes “oh, cool $45, that’s not too bad” and we were pretty happy with that. BUT THEN…I look at the machine after the next spin and go “Wait! Baby…that says 45000 credits….isn’t that $450?”. Sure enough, $450 just like that. As the machine was playing it’s winner music, I started dancing around in my chair, shimmy-shaking as I cashed out, I put $440 away and went to another machine with $20. That is basically my tactic with gambling. I always start out with a $20, anything that I win, I always spend another $20. By the end of the trip, I was up $680. The Boy and I were excited about our wins. I’m putting the $200 that I had taken out, back into the bank, putting $300 in our Costa Rica savings account, and putting $100 into my emergency savings. Keeping $80 to go do something fun for my bday night dinner – The Melting Pot.
Thirty-two isn’t looking so bad!
